Dear Parents,
We have just finished the unit: Addition
and Subtraction
Students applied mental mathematics strategies and number properties for:
1/2/3-digit
additions
1/2/3 subtractions
Students used their personal strategies to add and subtract with answers
to 1000.
We have been practicing these equations having as support Manipulatives,
Number Charts to 1000 and the new Math Chart the students keep in their
agendas.
The students also wrote story problems that required Addition/
Subtractions.
They traded their problems with classmates and compared/checked their
work.
We are going to test our knowledge this week writing a Math test.
Science Presentation
We had a guest in our class, Mr. Spence, Sabine's father, who is an architect.
He talked about his work,
sharing with us his passion for this job. He also brought some new houses
designs. The students asked him many questions who helped them in designing the
next Science Project:” Building Houses”.
We would like to thank Mr. Spence for his awesome presentation!
Merci,
The Grade 3 Team

New Year’s Resolutions
The first English project of
this year was: “New Year’s Resolutions.
We brainstormed the topic and
I wrote down on the board the students’ ideas on this matter. I invited the
students to develop in writing one or two resolutions they chose for this New
Year. They were also supposed to write what steps they would need to take in
order to fulfill their goals.
We displayed the students work on our Billboard and you, as parents are invited to have a look at our assignment.
Building With a Variety of Materials / Workshop
The Grade 3 students
attended a Science workshop presented by Mr. Colin Murch, an engineer from
Alberta Science Network.
The students designed
and built different structures by using a variety of materials and techniques.
First, they selected appropriate materials for use in construction tasks. They demonstrated
familiarity with the big variety of materials used. They selected the right
tools suitable to particular tasks and various connectors that add strengths to
their structures. In the end they presented their structures to the class.
It was a, learning,
creative and fun experience that we all enjoyed.
